Srinagar, Jun 24 : The Srinagar Police have put in place multi-layered security, traffic, and civic arrangements for the 8th Muharram procession, with drone surveillance being deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the observance, a top police officer said on Wednesday.
SSP Srinagar Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy said the arrangements cover the entire route from Gurubazaar to Dalgate Imamabad and urged mourners and members of the public to strictly adhere to the traffic advisories and safety protocols issued by the police.
“Our aim is to complete the curriculum smoothly and in a dignified manner. For this, we need the support and cooperation of all stakeholders,” Chakravarthy told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
He said the force is working in close coordination with paramilitary units and the traffic police, and is also utilising drone surveillance to monitor the procession and ensure public convenience.
“We are doing all this to give comfort to the mourners and the public, and to complete the proceedings peacefully and smoothly,” he added.
The SSP reiterated his appeal for public cooperation, stating that police personnel are deployed round the clock for the purpose. He also confirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been finalised for the main procession in the Zadibal area.
“We will do it successfully,” he said. (KNS)
