Srinagar, August 10 : Abdul Rashid Dawoodi, head of Jumu Kashmir Tehrik-e-Soutul-Awliya, on Sunday said that the issue of meat being supplied from outside the region without proper verification of its halal status is a serious concern.
He said the administration and police department appear unaware of the scale at which meat from other states is entering the market. Dawoodi added that many people are unaware that this meat could be haram, and called on the public to be cautious.
He said those responsible for supplying haram and rotten meat should face strict punishment to deter similar actions in the future. He also said he appreciated the steps taken by the administration and police to address the issue.
Speaking on the rise of social crimes, Dawoodi said the situation is worsening, with powerful individuals involved in activities such as gambling and drug distribution that harm young people.He said these individuals profit from such activities while causing damage to society.
He called on parents to monitor their children’s behavior closely, including their company and habits, referring to the Quranic teaching to protect oneself and family from harm.
Dawoodi said the responsibility to promote awareness about halal and haram extends beyond religious scholars to the wider community, urging people to be mindful of their actions and consequences.
When asked about a list of 25 books related to Jammu and Kashmir’s history recently circulated by the administration, Dawoodi said he had not yet reviewed the material and would comment after reading it.(KNS).
