Around 2 lakh Children in the age group of 0–5 years to receive Polio Drops in the District

Srinagar Dec 21 (TKM) : Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Sunday launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization(IPPI)-2025 programme at Urban Primary Health Centre(UPHC) Batamaloo as part of campaign to administer polio drops to nearly two lakh children in the age group of 0–5 years in the district.

The programme was organized by the Health Department, during which the Deputy Commissioner administered pulse polio drops to several children and reviewed the arrangements put in place for the smooth conduct of the immunization drive.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that Pulse Polio Immunization is a critical public health initiative aimed at safeguarding children from life-threatening diseases. He stressed that achieving 100 percent coverage is essential to maintaining the district’s polio-free status.

The DC further urged parents and guardians to ensure that every eligible child receives polio drops and appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to health workers during booth-based and door-to-door vaccination activities.

He also directed the concerned officers to ensure proper supervision, availability of logistics, and smooth functioning of vaccination booths across the district.

Pertinently, a total of 668 vaccination booths have been established across all Medical Zones of the district, with the deployment of nearly 3,000 health officials. In addition, transit vaccination booths operated by the CMO/Dy CMO and Block and Zone level teams have also been set up to facilitate the public.

The programme will continue with door-to-door vaccination from tomorrow to ensure maximum coverage of eligible children across the district.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tahir Sajad; District Health Officer, Dr Rubeena; Zonal Medical Officer, Batmaloo, Dr Sameena; ZMO SR Gunj, Dr Shafqat; ZMO, Zadibal Dr Rubeena other senior health functionaries and other concerned were present on the occasion.(TKM)
