Handwara, May 19 : Baramulla MP Er Rashid broke down during his father’s funeral on Tuesday, made an emotional appeal to the establishment, saying he does not care if he remains behind bars forever, but will not stop raising his voice.
“Whoever promotes the use of drugs is not worthy of being called a Muslim,” the jailed parliamentarian said, fighting back sobs while addressing a large gathering as per KNS.
“Do whatever you want, both nations (Indo-Pak), this time or next, but do not torment my Kashmiris. Do not kill the people of my Jammu and Kashmir, whether they are Hindu or Muslim,” Er Rashid said.
The MP, who is currently out on interim bail to participate in the last rites of his father, asserted that Kashmiris cannot be subjugated through force.
“You take one step forward with love, and we will come running to you. But no one can defeat us Kashmiris by showing off their power,” he said.
Er Rashid said the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not enemies.
“I want to tell the people of India that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not your enemies, nor does our religion, Islam, teach us to be enemies of anyone,” he said.
Welcoming tourists to the valley, Er Rashid added, “Tourists are welcome. Come all over Kashmir, but do not come with the mindset that you have won Kashmir. Do not be under this misconception.”
“Whatever comes to us, we will embrace it,” he said.
Notably, Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of incarcerated Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after a prolonged illness on Monday. (KNS)
