Srinagar, Dec 24 : The Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Srinagar on Wednesday said that enforcement drives across the city have been intensified and will continue without interruption to ensure discipline on roads and decongest traffic in the summer capital.

“Today we are driving, this is not our first drive. We are on roads every day. We have intensified our drives and these will remain continuous,” SSP Traffic Srinagar said as per KNS, speaking to reporters on Residency Road.

He added that vehicles lacking valid documents, fitness certificates, pollution checks, RC transfer or driving licences will face strict action.

The officer said that many outdated vehicles with expired lifespan are still operating. “This drive is to curb such vehicles,” he said, adding that vehicles coming from Budgam and outside the city are being restricted from entering congested zones, especially MA Road and Residency Road, to ease traffic flow.

“Our officers are deployed across the city at Boulevard Road near Bindroo Medicate, Batamaloo, Qamarwari and Kamarwari. The drive is going on in every sector,” he further said, emphasising that wrong-side parking and document violations will no longer be tolerated.

The SSP said that strict action is also being taken against minors driving vehicles.“We are acting against parents of minors. We are making efforts to decongest traffic from Bakshi Stadium to Jahangir Chowk,” he said.

To facilitate commuters, he said that diversions have been created for Sumo vehicles heading to Jahangir Chowk via cargo routes. “They will deboard near Shergari Police Station and get their Sumos there,” he said, adding that minibuses will also be shifted similarly in coming days to release pressure on key junctions.

He said that alternate transport options like Smart City buses and E-Rickshaws are being kept available for passengers who need to travel short distances. “People must adopt public transport even if they have to walk 50–100 meters. Only then traffic can be disciplined,” he said.

SSP Traffic Srinagar said that commuters can report grievances on PCR toll-free number 103. “We act on feedback. People inform us, and we take action with confidence,” he said.

The officer reiterated that action against overloading and traffic violations continues across all transport modes. “Our efforts are going on everywhere,” he said, appreciating the media for consistent coverage.(KNS)
