Sopore, Oct 11 (TKM) : The J&K Forest Department North Forest Circle, in a significant outreach effort, concluded the celebration of Wildlife Week 2025 today at SRM Welkin School, Sopore.
The collaborative event, anchored by the theme “Human–Wildlife Coexistence,” was a major initiative to sensitize the youth and local community on the urgent need for harmony between human settlements and the region’s unique wildlife.
Irfan Ali Shah, IFS, Conservator of Forests, North Circle Sopore, presided over the function as the Chief Guest. The gathering included key officials, notably Javid Rahim Malik, Deputy Director Forest Protection Force Baramulla,Rayees Range officer Sopore Range alongside representatives from various Forest Department wings, Social Forestry, the Forest Protection Force, NGOs, and the media.
In his address,the CoF North Kashmir Irfan Ali Shah, underscored the critical importance of Jammu and Kashmir’s forests and wetlands in sustaining its rich biodiversity. “Forest conservation is indispensable,” he stated, “as it is the primary way to maintain wildlife habitats, effectively mitigate human–wildlife conflicts, and ensure our long-term ecological balance. Coexistence is not merely an option, but an essential condition for natural harmony.
Javid Rahim Malik, Deputy Director FPF Baramulla, highlighted the multi-pronged strategy of the Forest Department, including the Forest Protection Force and Wildlife Division, in curbing illegal wildlife trade and protecting the unique fauna.
Haji Anayatullah Hajini , Chairman SRM Welkin School Sopore, praised the Forest Department’s commitment and emphasized the vital role of educational institutions in cultivating a new generation of conservation-aware citizens.
The event featured a comprehensive awareness programme, including the screening of two documentary films, “Jungle Ke Rakhwaale” and “Wildlife Conservation Areas of Jammu and Kashmir,” which showcased the Forest Department’s dedicated efforts for Wildlife Conservation.
Students of SRM Welkin School contributed enthusiastically, presenting insightful skits, speeches, and cultural performances that illustrated the significance of forests and wildlife in human life.
The celebration culminated with the Chief Guest distributing prizes to the winners of a painting competition and presenting certificates of participation, encouraging the students to become active ambassadors of nature and conservation.(TKM)
