Jammu, Feb 06 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday stated that it has demolished illegal constructions in the ecologically sensitive tourist destination of Pahalgam and has constituted a special authority and squad to prevent such activities.
The reply was given in the Legislative Assembly by the Incharge Minister for Tourism, in response to a written question from Legislator Shamima Firdous during the ongoing budget session.
The legislator had sought details on the action taken against those involved in illegal constructions in Pahalgam and the initiatives taken to enforce building regulations for ecological protection.
In its response, the Government as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) informed that illegal and unauthorized constructions detected in Pahalgam have been demolished as per the due procedure established under the Jammu and Kashmir Control of Building Operations Act.
To strengthen regulatory mechanisms, the Government has constituted a Building Operations Controlling Authority (BOCA) for Pahalgam. Furthermore, the Pahalgam Development Authority is conducting regular day-to-day monitoring of all construction activities.
The Government has also deployed a dedicated demolition squad specifically to check and curb illegal construction, thereby aiming to safeguard the ecological sensitivity of the area the reply further reads. (KNS)
