Jammu, Feb 11 ; Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed regret in the Legislative Assembly over his remarks that triggered protests by BJP members, stating he did not intend to hurt anyone.
BJP legislators created uproar in the House, terming the Chief Minister’s reported comment as “inappropriate” and against the dignity of the Assembly. They raised slogans demanding that Abdullah withdraw the remark and tender an apology, leading to a brief walkout.
The BJP members later returned and continued their protest. “Let the CM come forward and say that it was a slip of tongue, express regret, and apologise,” they said.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said, “I regret my remarks if they have caused any hurt. My comments were directed at them and not at their family members.”
He, however, alleged that the opposition’s “field commander” — an apparent reference to Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma — had dragged his late grandfather into the matter.
Meanwhile, Proceedings of the House continued despite the noisy scenes. (KNS)
