Srinagar, Oct 24 : Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar, on Saturday chaired a meeting in hybrid mode to review crime disposal, security preparedness and policing measures across Kashmir Zone, stressing time-bound investigations, intelligence-based policing and winter preparedness.

The meeting was attended by all three Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Kashmir Zone.

During the meeting, the IGP reviewed progress in crime disposal and directed officers to ensure timely investigation and disposal of cases within the stipulated 60/90-day timelines under the relevant provisions of the new criminal laws.

He also reviewed theft-related cases, recovery rates and measures to dismantle organised theft networks.

Sujit Kumar directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering and take effective action against overground workers (OGWs), hybrid terrorists and other elements inimical to peace and security. He stressed close monitoring of emerging security challenges and coordinated efforts to maintain peace and public order.

The meeting also reviewed winter preparedness, particularly heating arrangements and the availability of essential facilities for police personnel deployed at police stations and other establishments. The IGP stressed that adequate arrangements must be ensured for personnel performing duties during harsh winter conditions.

He further directed officers to make police nakas more dynamic, effective and intelligence-driven while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public. He emphasised stronger inter-agency coordination and greater operational synergy to address security concerns.

Reviewing pending cases, including those stayed by courts, the IGP stressed proper monitoring and timely follow-up in accordance with judicial directions and established legal procedures.

The meeting also deliberated on identifying suitable police stations for development as Model Police Stations and upgrading existing police stations and police posts to improve infrastructure, policing standards and public service delivery.

Highlighting the importance of community engagement, Sujit Kumar called for regular police-public meetings to address grievances, encourage community participation and strengthen public trust in the police.

He directed all officers of Kashmir Zone to ensure close supervision of crime disposal, strengthen preventive and intelligence-based policing, ensure adequate winter preparedness and maintain coordinated efforts to uphold peace, security and public safety across the region. (KNS)
