Srinagar, June 6 : Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Jammu and Kashmir, M. Suleman Choudhary on Saturday reviewed traffic arrangements along the Pahalgam axis for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and directed officers to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims and vehicles during the annual pilgrimage.
Accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic Rural Kashmir) Liaqat Ali and other officers, Choudhary inspected designated parking areas for Yatra vehicles and reviewed traffic regulation points, diversion routes, road cuts, market areas and other locations along the route, officials said.
During the visit, the IGP assessed preparations at various halting points and examined arrangements for vehicular regulation and parking management.
He directed officers to put in place all traffic management measures well ahead of the Yatra and stressed the need for coordination among different agencies to ensure hassle-free movement of pilgrims.
Choudhary also briefed officers on their responsibilities and asked them to prepare detailed deployment plans keeping in view the expected rush of pilgrims, local traffic requirements and emergency response needs.
The officer instructed the traffic police to identify potential bottlenecks, ensure proper placement of traffic signages and barricades and maintain adequate deployment at critical locations.
Special focus should be laid on parking management, route diversions and facilitating emergency services, he said.
Expressing satisfaction over the preparations, the IGP directed officers to remain fully prepared and proactive to ensure the smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, officials added.(KNS).
