Srinagar, Sep 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s autumn session began here on Monday, with the House paying tributes to three former ministers and legislators who passed away recently before taking up its legislative and administrative business.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) made obituary references to Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan, recalling their contributions to public service and legislative affairs. Members observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect.
Meanwhile, The House is scheduled to take up Question Hour, during which members will raise issues concerning public administration and their constituencies, with concerned ministers responding.
A report by the House Committee headed by Justice Hasnain Masoodi, pertaining to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu and Kashmir, is set to be tabled. Its presentation is expected to give the Assembly an opportunity to discuss the centrally sponsored water supply programme.
The legislative agenda includes the introduction of a Bill concerning the cooperative sector. Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister in charge of Cooperatives, is scheduled to move legislation seeking amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, which also provides for the repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999, with transitional provisions.
The Speaker is also scheduled to announce the Panel of Chairmen. (KNS)
