Srinagar, Oct 14 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the region’s financial condition has been under strain this year following a series of challenges, including the Pahalgam terror attack, the recent war, and damage caused by heavy rains in July, August, and September.

“It is not a secret that this year has been difficult for us. First, the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, then the war between the two countries, and then the damage caused by the rains. As a result, the financial situation of Jammu and Kashmir is very bad,” Omar Abdullah told reporters.

He added that despite the difficulties, the government is continuing efforts to serve the people. “It is not all darkness. Even in the dark, we can see the rays of light. Keeping this in mind, we are serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Responding to a question on tourism promotion, the Chief Minister said that efforts are underway to attract visitors from Southeast Asia and other parts of India. “One of our teams has gone to Singapore. Southeast Asia is a big market for us in terms of tourism. In the rest of the country, whether it is Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, or Delhi, wherever we get the opportunity, we talk about tourism promotion,” he said. (KNS)
