Kathua Cloudburst: Dr. Jitendra Singh, CM Omar Abdullah oversee rescue efforts

KATHUA, August 17 : At least four people have lost their lives following a cloudburst in the Janglote area of Kathua district, causing significant damage to infrastructure and triggering landslides in several parts of the district.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, after receiving information about the incident, spoke with Senior Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saxena. “Four casualties have been reported. In addition, the railway track and National Highway have suffered damage, and the Kathua Police Station has been affected. The civilian administration, military, and paramilitary forces have swung into action. The situation is being continuously monitored,” Dr. Singh said, offering his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and the damage caused by landslides in areas including Jodh Khad and Juthana.

The landslides claimed four lives and left many others injured. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to immediately initiate relief, rescue, and evacuation operations to ensure the safety and support of affected families. Authorities are working round the clock to manage the crisis and restore normalcy in the region.(KNS).
