Srinagar, June 26 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday participated in the traditional Zuljinah procession on the solemn occasion of Youm-e-Ashura at Zadibal here, joining thousands of mourners in paying homage to the martyrs of Karbala.
The Lt Governor walked alongside the procession and offered floral tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, recalling their supreme sacrifice for the cause of truth and justice.
“Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) gave the timeless message of selfless service and compassion for the underprivileged. The society must draw inspiration from his noble life and virtues, walking the righteous path of truth, justice, and humanity,” the Lt Governor said in a statement.
He emphasized that the martyrdom at Karbala remains an eternal guide for building a society rooted in equality and harmony.
In a gesture of solidarity, the Lt Governor also personally served refreshments to the mourners participating in the procession, which wound its way through the traditional routes of the old city amid strict security arrangements.
The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the observance, with paramilitary forces and police maintaining a tight vigil to ensure the peaceful conduct of the rituals. (KNS)
