Anantnag, Mar 17 : A 31-year-old man died and several buildings were gutted in a major fire that broke out at a resort in Pahalgam late Monday night, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Manjeet Singh, son of Wakeel Singh, a resident of Hutmurah Mattan. He was employed at Hotel The Wave Lodge in the tourist resort.

Officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the fire erupted at Asal Resort in the Rangward area. During firefighting operations, Manjeet was struck by a fire tender while it was reversing at the spot.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The blaze completely destroyed two three-storey buildings and caused partial damage to another. A vehicle was also damaged in the incident, officials added.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Officials said an investigation has been launched. (KNS)
