GUREZ, OCTOBER 15 (TKM): The Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mahmood Ahmad Shah, today concluded an extensive tour of the remote Gurez sub-division to take stock of the power infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of electricity to the residents ahead of the forthcoming winter season.

The Managing Director was accompanied by a team of senior officers, including the Chief Engineer, Distribution KPDCL, Nisar Ahmad Lone; Chief Engineer, Projects KPDCL, Er. Mohd. Hussain Shah; Superintending Engineer O&M Circle Ganderbal, Er. Arshad Hussain Reshi; and the Executive Engineers of ED Bandipora, Er. Aijaz Ahmad Salati, and STD Ganderbal, Er. Shameem Ahmad.

The MD and his team held a comprehensive meeting with field officers to review power availability readiness and critical winter preparedness measures to minimize outages during heavy snowfall and harsh weather.

The MD also conducted a detailed review of the upcoming Kanzelwan 6.3 MVA Receiving Station, the commissioning of which is scheduled soon. This new receiving station is poised to be a game-changer, significantly enhancing the reliability and quality of power supply to the entire Gurez region.

The MD directed the concerned engineering teams to expedite the remaining works to ensure the station is operational before the onset of peak winter.

As part of the visit, the MD and his team also conducted a thorough inspection of the Dam Toe Power House (3×0.8 MW), which is a key source feeding the Dawar Receiving Station in Gurez. The MD took special note of its operational preparedness, as the powerhouse is crucial for supplying power in isolation mode during peak winter, when the grid supply from Bandipora Grid is often cut off due to heavy snowfall and avalanches.

Furthermore, the Managing Director issued strict instructions to the officers to ensure the adequate availability of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) fuel to power the Generating Sets in the off-grid areas of the sub-division, ensuring continued power supply to these remote locations during periods of heavy snowfall and road closure.

The meeting also assessed the status of various works being executed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). A key highlight was the MD’s directive to all officers to ensure the fast-track execution of all RDSS works to complete the projects within the stipulated timelines and strengthen the distribution network before winter.(TKM)
