Jammu, Feb 9 ; The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday informed the Assembly that there is no proposal under consideration to transfer administrative control of historic and high-performing colleges like SP College and Amar Singh College to the Cluster Universities of Srinagar and Jammu.

In a written reply to a question by lagislator Tanvir Sadiq in the ongoing budget session as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the Higher Education Department said while these colleges were placed under the Cluster Universities set up under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), their administrative control remains with the department.

“The administrative control of teaching and non-teaching staff of the constituent colleges is with the Higher Education Department,” the reply stated.

It added that both the Cluster Universities have been allotted land to construct their own establishments and have developed independent PG schools.

When asked whether steps were being taken to affiliate, merge or transfer control of these colleges to the Cluster Universities, the government categorically said, “At present, there is no such proposal under the consideration of the government.”

The question had expressed concern that such a move would dilute the historic identity, academic autonomy and legacy of institutions like SP College, Women’s College (MA Road), Amar Singh College, MAM College, GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce. (KNS)
