Terms Omar Abdullah as ‘Part-time CM, marathon runner’

Srinagar, May 4 : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Monday accused Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over a social media post, demanding an apology and accusing him of insulting democracy and the people’s mandate.

“The way a particular word has been used, it is an insult to democracy. In any election, whichever party wins, we congratulate that party. It is the people’s mandate. Who am I to call people ‘bloody hell’?” Sharma told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

The senior BJP leader alleged that CM Omar had abused voters in five states. “People have exercised their right and intellect. These are words that insult democracy,” he said.

The BJP leader further accused CM Omar of being “irritated and worried” whenever reminded of the “bloodshed” caused by his party in Kashmir. He also dismissed the NC as a “regional party” confined to Kashmir, contrasting it with the BJP’s national presence.

The BJP senior leader termed Omar Abdullah a “part-time chief minister” and a “marathon runner,” alleging he had time for “cycling, skiing, and coffee” but not for the poor. “Jammu and Kashmir needed a chief minister. We got a marathon runner. This is unfortunate,” he said.

LoP also claimed that the people of Jammu want a chief minister from a poor family, not a “prince of the Abdullah family.”

On the West Bengal elections, BJP leader Sharma said the results indicate a rejection of corruption and appeasement politics. “People have rejected Mamata Banerjee… the sun of power will rise very soon in Jammu and Kashmir as well,” he said.

Reacting to voter list revisions, Sharma defended the Election Commission’s move to remove ineligible names. “Why should a dead person or a Bangladeshi or Pakistani be in the voter list?” he asked.

The BJP senior leader further clarified that the BJP has no intention to break any party or form a government in J&K. “We are in the opposition’s role, and we will play that role. Let Omar Abdullah enjoy his marathon and skiing.” (KNS)
