Jammu, July 17 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the ongoing restoration and development work at the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex in Jammu. He was accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Yudhvir Sethi during the site visit.

The Chief Minister was briefed in detail about the multi-phase project that aims to revive the grandeur of the former Dogra royal palace. Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma gave an overview of the implementation strategy, while Deepika Sharma, Executive Director of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, presented various components of the project.

Officials informed that the complex has been divided into six zones under the master plan. These zones will include public spaces, cultural themes, knowledge centres, experiential zones, and a crafts bazaar. Innovative ideas like a library-cum-café in a heritage setting are also part of the Jammu Smart City Mission.

Infrastructure upgrades, including a span bridge and lifts, are planned to improve accessibility and enhance the visitor experience. It was reported that most of the structures are recoverable and are being carefully restored to their original form.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of making the central courtyard a welcoming space for the public. “The entrance must reflect the historic character of this place,” he said, calling for the early completion of all pending works. He also emphasized the promotion of Dogra culture and crafts through regular events at the complex.

Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani echoed the Chief Minister’s views, saying the site must strike a balance between preserving history and meeting modern expectations to become a vibrant cultural destination.

The Mubarak Mandi Complex is one of Jammu’s most iconic heritage sites. It is being developed into a full-fledged cultural centre with museums, conference halls, and heritage hospitality services.

During the meeting, Omar Abdullah also reviewed operational challenges and future requirements to ensure both immediate goals and long-term sustainability are met.

Senior officials present included Joint Commissioner JMC and Additional CEO Jammu Smart City Subah Mehta, and SE PWD Ashwani Kangotra, among others.(KNS)
