Srinagar, Feb 17 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that more than 17.27 lakh kanals of state land have been encroached across the Union Territory, of which over 14.29 lakh kanals have been retrieved so far.
The information was provided in response to a question by MLA Sham Lal Sharma regarding the status of encroached and recovered land.
Officials said in the Kashmir division, 3,27,198 kanals were reported encroached, with 2,16,913 kanals already recovered. In Jammu division, 14,00,050 kanals of land were found encroached, while 12,12,287 kanals have been reclaimed.
The Revenue Department highlighted that land retrieval efforts are ongoing and are being carried out in accordance with applicable laws and administrative procedures.
The government did not provide details on pending encroachments or specific measures planned for complete recovery.
It that regular monitoring and enforcement actions remain a priority to protect state property and prevent further encroachments.
The total encroached area across Jammu and Kashmir now stands at 17,27,248 kanals, with 14,29,200 kanals successfully retrieved to date.(KNS).
