Srinagar, Jul 9 : A total of 6,600 students are scheduled to appear for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) examination tomorrow, which will be conducted across 97 centres set up throughout the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .

The examination, conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (J&K BOSE), is being held with strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures designed to safeguard the integrity of this high-profile scholarship test, according to an official statement .

The candidates are competing for 1,068 seats allotted to J&K under the central government’s flagship scheme. Successful candidates will be eligible for an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 for a period of four years, starting from Class 9 .

The J&K BOSE has put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure complete transparency through a multi-layer monitoring mechanism involving Chief Education Officers (CEOs), Heads of Institutions (HOIs), Board officials, and invigilators .

The scheme has been instrumental over the years in encouraging meritorious students from socio-economically weaker sections to pursue their academic dreams. Officials noted that several past beneficiaries have gone on to crack national-level examinations, including NEET and JEE .

The NMMSS examination comprises two papers—Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)—each of 90 minutes duration with 90 multiple-choice questions . (KNS)
