Srinagar, Apr 6 : Waqf Board Chairperson and senior BJP leader Dr Darakshan Andrabi on Monday welcomed the special parliamentary session scheduled from April 16 to 18, saying it would pave the way for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
“The special session that is being held in Parliament from 16th to 18th is for 33 per cent reservation for women. Lawmakers who will become women, whether they are in Parliament, assemblies or upper houses — this is what our Prime Minister did in 2014,” Dr Andrabi told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) on the sidelines of the party’s foundation day event.
She said the opposition had always taken the issue lightly. “But today, the special session is for women’s reservation. The dream that was in our eyes — its interpretation from 16th to 18th is now for those sisters who used to think that we will go to Parliament, we will go to assemblies, and we will also be a part of the laws of this country.”
The BJP leader said women’s share in the country was 50 per cent, but that was not reflected in legislatures. “Now for the 33 per cent reservation that we have got, we congratulate PM Modi a lot. In the upcoming election in 2029, you will see this reservation on the ground.”
She also highlighted the BJP’s growing footprint in Jammu and Kashmir. “Today, every square, every office, every house — with this flag, every Kashmiri is walking. Where there is a Tiranga in every hand, that is the flag of the party. Today it was unveiled at the party headquarters. This is a big success for us, for J&K.” (KNS)
