Srinagar, June 10: Members of the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir have appealed to the government to declare a gazetted holiday on the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, which falls on Thursday, 12 June 2025.

In a formal appeal addressed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the community has urged the administration to recognize the spiritual and historical importance of the occasion.

The District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Srinagar, has already submitted an official request to the authorities in this regard.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Sikh Guru, is remembered as a symbol of bravery, justice, and spiritual strength. The community believes a holiday would allow them to observe the day with full devotion and traditional practices without professional or academic obligations.

They expressed hope that the government would acknowledge the sentiments of the Sikh minority and declare a gazetted holiday as a mark of respect and inclusion.
