Srinagar, Sept 16 : Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Tuesday said that the administration is working on priority to ensure the smooth evacuation of fruit-laden trucks from the valley while also maintaining the flow of essential supplies into Kashmir.

According to KNS, Garg said a series of meetings were held with fruit growers, associations, and the Shopian Fruit Mandi Association. He also mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary have reviewed the situation in detail.

“A system has been created to regulate movement. Since yesterday, more than 1,200 fruit-laden trucks have been evacuated. With the cooperation of BRO, traffic police, and district authorities, the Mughal Road and National Highway are being managed in a circular flow to balance essential supplies from Jammu and the transportation of fruits to markets,” Garg said as per KNS.

Div Com acknowledged that growers have faced hardships due to road closures and disruptions but assured that restoration work is underway. “Our task is to balance both bringing in essential commodities like oil, LPG, and perishables, while also ensuring timely evacuation of fruits to Jammu,” he added.

Responding to growers’ requests, Garg announced temporary relaxation in movement timings to avoid losses. “We have decided to allow relaxation for a few days so that no fruit grower faces difficulties and fruits can be transported safely,” he said.

He further noted that the Chief Secretary has taken steps to improve traffic regulation and that a fair assessment of the growers’ losses will be carried out. “All fruit-laden trucks are now moving smoothly, and with the continued cooperation of growers, traffic police, BRO, and district officers, we are confident no one will face unnecessary problems,” Garg said.
