Sopore, June 14 (KNS): Four persons were apprehended on Sunday after police busted a gambling den operating at a public place near a park in the Chinkipora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

Acting on reliable information, a team from Police Station Sopore raided the spot and caught the accused red-handed, they said.

Those arrested were identified as Dawood Iqbal Ganie, Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh, Owais Ahmad Dar and Parvaiz Ahmad Ganie — all residents of Chinkipora, Sopore.

Officials said cash amounting to ₹8,590 and playing cards were seized from the site.

A case under FIR No. 144/2026 has been registered at Police Station Sopore under Section 13 of the Gambling Act, and further investigation has been taken up, they added.

Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and warned that strict legal action would continue against those involved in gambling and other anti-social activities. (KNS)
