Srinagar, Dec 26: Minimum temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh remained low on Friday, with several places in the Kashmir Valley recording sub-zero night temperatures, officials said.
According to data compiled by the Kashmir Weather service, Sonamarg emerged as the coldest place in the Kashmir region at minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Gulmarg at minus 4.5 degrees Celsius.
Pulwama recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, while Shopian and Kupwara settled at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius and minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar city was recorded at 0.2 degrees Celsius, while the Srinagar airport registered a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, officials said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, also recorded a minimum of 0.2 degrees Celsius. Other places in south Kashmir, including Pahalgam and Pampore, recorded lows of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius each.
In north Kashmir, Baramulla recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, while Bandipora settled at 0.2 degrees Celsius. Budgam recorded minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, Anantnag minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, and Ganderbal minus 0.1 degrees Celsius.
Zethan Rafiabad recorded a minimum of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, night temperatures were comparatively higher, though a few places recorded near-freezing conditions.
Jammu city recorded a minimum of 10.0 degrees Celsius, while the Jammu airport registered 10.2 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded a low of 3.8 degrees Celsius, and Ramban settled at 0.1 degrees Celsius, officials said.
Bhaderwah recorded a minimum of 2.6 degrees Celsius, Batote 6.1 degrees Celsius, and Doda 5.8 degrees Celsius.
Katra recorded 9.5 degrees Celsius, while Udhampur and Samba recorded minimums of 6.2 degrees Celsius and 6.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Rajouri and Reasi recorded lows of 4.5 degrees Celsius and 9.0 degrees Celsius.
In Ladakh, extreme cold conditions prevailed, with Leh recording minus 9.8 degrees Celsius, while Kargil registered minus 9.3 degrees Celsius. Nubra Valley recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.7 degrees Celsius.
Meteorological officials said cold conditions are likely to continue in the higher reaches, while plains may witness slight fluctuations in night temperatures over the next few days.(KNS).
