Srinagar, Feb 27 : In a pioneering move to bolster the security framework for the valley’s booming tourism sector, a two-week workshop on ‘Tech-Infused Tourism Policing’ concluded here at the District Police Lines (DPL) on Friday. The intensive training program was a collaborative initiative between the Jammu & Kashmir Police and the Gujarat-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU).

The primary objective of the workshop was to upskill police personnel in addressing contemporary security challenges by integrating modern technological tools into routine policing. The curriculum focused extensively on smart surveillance systems, data-driven crime prevention strategies, digital response mechanisms, and technology-enabled tourist assistance.

The valedictory session was presided over by DIG Central Kashmir Range, Shri Rajiv Pandey, IPS. He was accompanied by SSP Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, and other senior officers of the district.

Addressing the gathering, DIG Pandey emphasized the critical need for technology-enabled policing in a tourism-centric region like Jammu & Kashmir. He lauded the synergy between the J&K Police and the RRU, describing the workshop as a “progressive stride” toward building a tech-savvy, responsive, and citizen-friendly police force capable of catering to the needs of both domestic and international tourists.

During the ceremony, mementos were presented to the resource persons and faculty members from the RRU in recognition of their specialized contributions. Certificates of participation were also distributed among the attending police personnel.

The comprehensive workshop covered a wide spectrum of subjects, including cyber awareness in tourist hotspots, advanced surveillance technologies, emergency response protocols, digital documentation, and global best practices in tourism policing. Experts from the RRU conducted interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and scenario-based exercises to provide hands-on training to the participating officers.

This initiative underscores the continued commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Police towards modernization and capacity building. By blending cutting-edge technology with traditional policing methods, the department aims to establish a robust framework to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for tourists visiting the region.
