Srinagar, Jan 16 : People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti launched a sharp critique of American foreign policy, alleging that the United States has systematically undermined Muslim nations under the pretext of promoting democracy.

Addressing a press conference, Mehbooba Mufti as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said, “America has developed a practice of intervening in Muslim countries under the guise of restoring democracy, often toppling existing governments. It engages in women’s rights rhetoric, but this is fundamentally wrong. America has always intervened where its eyes are set on oil and other resources.”

She said America has devastated many Muslim nations under the notion of changing governments where people suffer oppression. “The greatest oppression was happening in Gaza, yet America did not intervene there,” she added.

Expressing solidarity with Iran, Mehbooba welcomed protests in Jammu and Kashmir. “I am happy that at this time, people in our Jammu and Kashmir came out onto the streets to protest in support of Iran. I hope the people of Iran understand that America is no one’s friend and is particularly the biggest enemy of Muslims,” she said.

The former Chief Minister cautioned Iran against engaging with the U.S. and Israel. “If the people of Iran do not understand this now and fall back into the trap of America and Israel, God forbid, Iran’s situation will become worse than Syria’s,” she warned.

She said that Iran and India have historically shared close relations, and Kashmir also had close ties with Iran. “However, since the BJP government came to power, the entire system in the country has changed. People are now afraid to protest and raise their voices,” Mufti alleged. “But I am happy that today people in Kashmir protested for Iran.”

Mehbooba said she hopes Iran will refuse negotiations with the U.S. and take a stand against Israel. “Both are enemies of Islam,” she said.

“America’s role in the world, especially concerning Muslims, has been one of devastation. Gaza is the clearest example before us all,” the PDP leader asserted. “Therefore, Iran should stand firmly with its own government,” she added. (KNS)
