Srinagar, Sep 16 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said drainage-related problems affecting water bodies in Jammu and Kashmir were a legacy issue and could not be resolved overnight, while asserting that the government was working on projects to address them.
Responding to a question on issues related to water bodies, Omar said the problem had not emerged in the last two years and required sustained efforts to address it.
“This is not a problem of the last two years. It is a legacy issue. We will not be able to deal with it overnight. But we are doing it,” he said.
The Chief Minister said projects were being prepared under different government schemes to deal with the issue and improve the condition of water bodies.
“Projects are being made with reference to different schemes. Whether it is in SASKI or in other schemes, we are trying to increase the number of water bodies,” he said.
Omar said the government was also looking at ways to increase the number of water bodies as part of its efforts to address water-related issues in the region.
He said the administration was working on the issue rather than expecting it to be resolved immediately.(KNS)
