Srinagar, July 29 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that a diploma course in calligraphy will soon be launched by Kashmir University in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, aimed at reviving the Valley’s centuries-old artistic traditions.

LG made this announcement during his interaction with media persons at an event held in Baramulla, which, according to him, had also achieved a world record in cultural participation. “I would like to congratulate the Indian Army and the District Administration, Baramulla, for today’s event, which has set a world record,” LG said.

He said that the event marked a significant moment in efforts to safeguard and promote the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. “I believe that this event will be a great contribution to the survival of the art that was flourishing here,” he said.

He said that to institutionalize the revival of calligraphy, the administration, through Kashmir University and the cultural academy, would formally introduce a diploma course in the art form.

“Today, I would like to announce that a diploma course of calligraphy will be started by the Kashmir University along with our academy,” LG said.

He said that the training should not just be academic but rooted in authentic artistic knowledge passed down through generations. “Such teachers, who are the pioneers of these arts, should train the students in this art,” he said.

He further said that financial backing would be provided to support the course and its trainers to ensure that it becomes a sustainable platform for nurturing future artists. “For this, financial support should be provided,” LG added.

He said that promoting traditional art forms like calligraphy is an integral part of the broader vision for cultural empowerment and youth engagement in Jammu and Kashmir. “These steps will help revive lost traditions and open up livelihood opportunities for our youth,” LG said.(KNS)
