Srinagar, November 06 : Managing Director Syed Qamar Sajad on Thursday said that the Gulmarg Cable Car, one of Asia’s highest and longest gondolas, is now operating at full capacity after a major upgrade, as the facility can now handle up to 9,000 visitors a day.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Sajad said the maintenance and technical teams worked round the clock to complete the upgradation before the winter season. The hydraulic and brake systems, both vital to the Gondola’s operation, have been fully overhauled after several years.

He said the system is now 100 percent safe and efficient, with performance at its peak.

The Gondola Café has also been revamped to serve visitors better. It now offers essential services at reasonable prices, helping tourists enjoy quality food and refreshments despite rising market costs.

He said that plans are underway to install a drag lift at the site. “By the end of November, we expect it to become operational soon,” he said.

Currently, the average daily footfall is around 2,000 visitors, and officials expect the number to rise steadily with the improved facilities, he said.

Sajad said he is pleased with the progress but stressed that consistent effort is key. “We cannot become complacent. There is always room for improvement. Our goal is to provide the best experience for every tourist visiting the Gondola,” he added. (KNS)
