Budgam, Jan 20 : The Revenue Department in central Kashmir’s Budgam district has constituted a special multi-departmental team to formally demarcate the boundaries of the ecologically vital Hokersar and Nambli-Narkara wetland reserves.

The directive, issued by the Office of the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Budgam of which a copy lies with Kashmir News Service (KNS) mandates the team to conduct a field survey and clearly delineate the official limits of the protected wetlands.

The team is required to submit a comprehensive demarcation report to the ACR’s office upon completion of the exercise.

The sixteen-member team has been drawn from the revenue and forestry departments for their jurisdictional expertise. It will be led by Range Officer Nasir Ahmad Sheikh. Key members including Naib Tehsildars Abdul Majeed Dar, Ghulam Jeelani, and Fayaz Ahmad Khan, alongside Block Officer Ghulam Hassan.

The field operation will be supported by nine Patwaris from various circles adjacent to the wetlands: Zubair Ahmad Naqash, Nusrat Habib Shah, Shabir Ahmad, Hilal Ahmad Banday, Ghulam Hassan, Tariq Ahmad, Ghulam Ali, Abdul Rashid, and Mohammad Iqbal Andrabi. Additional support staff includes officials Javed Iqbal, Abdul Gani, Tahir Yousuf, and Suhail Nasir.

Administrative and environmental experts have described the demarcation as a critical step for the preservation of these ecosystems.

The Hokersar and Nambli-Narkara wetlands are recognized as significant biodiversity habitats, hosting numerous migratory bird species, and act as crucial natural buffers against flooding (KNS)
