Srinagar, Mar 20 : The Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club on Friday welcomed the initiatives taken by Omar Abdullah for revival of tourism in the Valley, saying such steps are needed to boost the sector.

Chairman of the club, Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya, said the stakeholders are “highly thankful” to the Chief Minister for focusing on tourism and taking measures aimed at its growth. He said the government has remained proactive in addressing issues concerning the sector.

Chaya said the tourism department is working actively for promotion and expressed hope that the upcoming event will prove to be a significant platform for showcasing Kashmir as a destination. “It will be one of its kind for tourism,” he said.

He added that stakeholders would extend full support to the event, describing such initiatives as the need of the hour for the Valley’s economy.

Secretary General of the club, Tariq Ghani, also appreciated the role of the tourism department and the Chief Minister for taking steps towards tourism revival.

Chaya expressed optimism that tourism will see a strong revival this year with government support. He said the presence of a “young and dynamic” tourism minister reflects the administration’s focus on the sector and its potential to generate livelihoods.

The hoteliers’ body said sustained efforts and collaborative initiatives between the government and stakeholders would help strengthen the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS).
