Anantnag, May 11 : Police have arrested 118 drug peddlers and seized over 300 kg of contraband in Anantnag district as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ (drug-free campaign), a senior officer said on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Nagpuri (IPS), told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that a multi-pronged action plan has been rolled out against the narcotics trade, including cancellation of driving licences, registration certificates, and demolition of illegal properties linked to peddlers.

“Based on intelligence inputs, habitual offenders have been identified. Directions have been issued to cancel their driving licences and registration certificates. Vehicles will be seized and NOCs revoked,” the SSP said.

He added that properties of drug smugglers are being identified for demolition or attachment under the law. “If you have committed a mistake, destroy it yourself. If Anantnag police come after you, the doors of law will not remain open forever,” SSP Nagpuri warned.

Three female drug peddlers were also among those arrested in recent drives, he said. The SSP also noted that religious preachers during Friday prayers have appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report cases to de-addiction centres.

“Ignorance of law is not an excuse,” the SSP said, urging citizens to join the fight against drug abuse. He reiterated that habitual offenders will face the strictest punishment and the crackdown will continue across the district. (KNS)
