Srinagar, May 28: Eid-ul-Adha prayers were offered across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday with thousands of devotees gathering at mosques, shrines and Eidgahs amid overcast weather conditions at many places.
Special congregational prayers were held at major shrines and mosques across the Valley, including the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar and the Ahimshareef shrine in Bandipora district.
While prayers at several places were offered in open Eidgah grounds, many congregations were shifted to mosques due to waterlogged prayer grounds following incessant rainfall over the past several days.
Devotees, including men, women and children, gathered in large numbers since early morning to participate in the prayers and listen to sermons delivered by religious clerics.
Officials said elaborate security and traffic arrangements were put in place across the Valley to ensure smooth movement of worshippers and maintain law and order during the congregations.
Security personnel were deployed in sensitive areas, while traffic police regulated vehicular movement near major prayer venues to avoid congestion, they said.
People exchanged Eid greetings after the prayers and prayed for peace, prosperity and communal harmony.
Meanwhile, several social, religious and political organisations extended Eid greetings to the people on the occasion.(KNS)
