Srinagar, Apr 27 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge sheet against a former computer operator of the Public Works Department (PWD) in a bribery case involving Rs 4,000, officials said on Monday.
The charge sheet was presented before the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar. The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for June 10.
According to a spokesperson of the ACB, the case pertains to an FIR registered on March 2, 2022, against the then computer operator, Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Bamloora Ganderbal.
The FIR was lodged on a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded Rs 4,000 for issuing a D-class contractor card. The ACB laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount from the complainant, the spokesperson said.
The bribe money was recovered on the spot. Chemical tests later confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the hands of the accused.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the ACB established the commission of an offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Sheikh.
“The charge sheet was presented before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar today (April 27) for judicial determination,” the spokesperson added. (KNS)
