Jammu, Apr 5 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested a Junior Engineer of the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹75,000 in Katra, officials said on Saturday.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the accused has been identified as Anirudh Sharma, a resident of Mohalla Sultanpura, Lane No. 1, Janipur, Jammu, who was posted as a JE in the JPDCL (PDD) sub-division at Katra.
An ACB official said that a complaint was received against the public servant alleging that he had demanded the illegal gratification from the complainant for replacement of an electric meter and reducing the monthly electricity bill.
“Since the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under the law,” the official said.

A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted. “The team laid a successful trap and the accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of ₹75,000 as the first installment from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses,” the ACB official said.
The accused was arrested on the spot and the bribe money was recovered from his possession. Subsequently, a search was also conducted at his residential premises in Janipur, Jammu, in the presence of a magistrate.
