Jammu, Sept 1 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday visited Jammu to assess the damage caused by the recent floods that have left more than 130 people dead across several districts since mid-August.
Accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Shah stopped at the Tawi bridge near Bikram Chowk to get a ground-level view of the swollen river and the damage along its banks.
He is also expected to visit Manguchak village, considered among the worst-hit areas, before undertaking an aerial survey of flood-ravaged regions.
Officials said the home minister will chair two separate meetings at Raj Bhawan later today — one on the immediate relief measures and another on the impact of the floods on the border security grid.
The disaster, triggered by cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods, has taken a heavy toll in Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi, and Ramban districts.(KNS).
