Baramulla, July 23 : The District Magistrate of Baramulla on Thursday imposed a complete ban on collection of donations and funds by individuals, organisations, and NGOs without valid permission from the competent authority, citing concerns over transparency and possible misuse of public goodwill.
The order, issued under No. 8/DMB/2026, follows a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, which revealed that certain non-local individuals and women were found collecting money from the public in Baramulla town on the pretext of providing relief to victims of natural calamities.
During verification, the concerned individuals could not produce any valid authorisation, supporting documents, or permission from any government authority, NGO, or charitable organisation, the SSP reported as per the order accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
“Such practice not only raises concerns regarding transparency and accountability but also creates the possibility of misuse of public goodwill and exploitation of citizens through unauthorised fund-raising drives,” the order read.
The directive makes it clear that no individual, organisation, NGO, or trust shall undertake any such activity in the district without obtaining proper permission from the competent authority.
The SSP Baramulla, SSP Sopore, and all Executive Magistrates have been directed to ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit and take strict legal action against violators.
The administration said the measure was necessary to regulate, verify, and monitor fundraising activities and protect the public from potential fraudulent campaigns. (KNS)
