New Delhi, July 6 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government had finally realised the decades-old dream of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir was now “completely integrated” with India — a position he described as final and irreversible.
Speaking at a function here to commemorate Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary, Amit Shah as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) recalled that the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder had fiercely opposed the special status granted to the erstwhile state, raising the slogan: “Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan, do Nishan nahi chalenge.”
“Dr Mookerjee sacrificed his life for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled that resolve by removing Article 370. Today, Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India,” Amit Shah said.
The home minister also pointed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act as another of Mookerjee’s objectives that the Modi government had delivered on, describing it as a measure to grant citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from neighbouring countries.
“We have removed Article 370, granted citizenship to persecuted Hindu refugees through the CAA, and we will identify and remove every infiltrator from Indian soil to make the country more secure,” he added. (KNS)
