Srinagar, Apr 24 : National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday claimed that Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is on a losing spree across the country, asserting that his party has “stopped the BJP in Kashmir” even as the ruling party faces imminent defeats in multiple states.
In a sharp attack on the saffron party, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister predicted that the electoral outcomes in West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu would deliver a crushing blow to the BJP’s expansion plans.
“Mamata Banerjee is poised for victory in West Bengal. The Congress is leading in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, the Congress along with M.K. Stalin’s party is set to win,” Dr Farooq told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
Asked about the BJP’s performance in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC president said, “We have stopped the BJP in Kashmir. The people here have rejected their agenda.”
NC president attributed the predicted electoral outcomes to the “grace of Allah” and said the results would reflect the people’s mandate against divisive politics.
On the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq maintained that the NC remains the dominant force and that the BJP has failed to make any inroads in the valley.
The veteran leader also touched upon international developments, calling for global efforts to end ongoing conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
“If peace does not return to the Middle East, the consequences for the world will be severe. Every country and every leader must try to ensure that this war ends immediately,” he said.
Dr Farooq Abdullah expressed hope that the United States leadership would act to de-escalate tensions and urged countries like China and Russia to play a role in ending the conflict at the earliest. (KNS)
