Srinagar, Oct 30 : Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday said that any government department found giving incorrect or misleading replies to legislators during the ongoing Assembly session will face action in accordance with the rules.

Speaking to KNS, Rather said that accountability within the government is essential for the credibility of the legislative process. “If any honourable member feels that he has not got the right or correct answer, he can take action against that ministry under the rules,” he said.

“We can get a notice that there has been a lapse, and if a department has really done a lay-off, we will take action against it under the rules.”

Rather said that the Assembly is committed to ensuring transparency in government replies and that members must receive accurate information to effectively represent their constituencies.

He said legislators have every right to question discrepancies and that procedural measures exist to hold departments responsible.

The Speaker also reiterated his resolve to maintain fairness in the conduct of the House and ensure that every member, regardless of party affiliation, gets an equal opportunity to raise issues concerning their constituents.(KNS).
