Gulmarg, May 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday dismissed reports of poaching attempts on National Conference (NC) legislators as “baseless” and asserted that neither he nor his government functions on anyone’s instructions, taking a swipe at the BJP.

Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) on the sidelines of his visit to Gulmarg, CM Omar said there is no such MLA in the National Conference who would leave the organisation to help the BJP. This has been mentioned in the Assembly as well.

The Chief Minister alleged that certain elements had acted on the BJP’s directions, a claim he said was proven through Right to Information (RTI) queries. “These are the same people who helped the BJP in the elections as per their instructions. And we are not saying this now. This has been proven under RTI,” he said.

Rejecting speculation that some of his party’s MLAs were preparing to switch sides, CM Omar questioned, “Do you think that if some MLAs had been preparing to leave for a few days, I would have been sitting here at these functions? These are baseless things.”

The Chief Minister said the BJP “has to do this to win. Now they have won in a few states. What will be the result in the rest of the country? We will have to wait and see.”

CM Omar Abdullah said, “I don’t do my work as per the instructions of another organisation. When I have to say something, I say it. Neither am I silent, nor is my government silent.”

When asked about a cabinet decision on the matter, he shot back, “Why do you people care so much about this? We will do it when we have to.” (KNS)
