Srinagar, May 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday asserted that his party’s role is to represent the people of the union territory in the national capital, rejecting suggestions that it acts as an “agent of Delhi” in the region.

“We are not Delhi’s agents here. Our job is to take J&K’s voice to Delhi, not to bring Delhi’s diktats to J&K,” Bukhari told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

The Apni Party chief said his party stands for a “people-centric” model and completely rejects “family rule” in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasised that the party was founded on inclusive principles where any committed worker can rise to leadership, and that neither his family nor his relatives are part of the party’s political structure.

He alleged that the 2024 elections were fought on “misleading narratives and emotional polarisation”. He expressed concern over the rising trend of electoral battles being fought on religious lines, calling it dangerous for the democratic fabric of J&K, which he said has historically remained above such divisions.

Apni Party chief also accused the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “double standards” in political engagements, especially regarding alliances and legislative decisions.

He claimed such parties mislead the public while pursuing their own interests. (KNS)
