Srinagar, Sep 19 Director State Disaster Response Force Imtiyaz Hussain on Friday praised the role of SDRF personnel and Civil Defence volunteers, saying their commitment was visible during every crisis, particularly during floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

“During disasters, you saw SDRF everywhere, our people, our boats, always on the frontlines,” Hussain said while addressing a six-day disaster preparedness training programme.

He said SDRF and Civil Defence volunteers deserved congratulations for their dedication, adding that their presence had brought relief and confidence to people in times of calamity.

Hussain also said that such training courses were vital as disasters had become a recurrent challenge due to global climatic changes.l“This training will not only help you in big disasters but also in daily life accidents like fire, a child falling from stairs, or a kitchen cylinder blast,” he said, adding that the training will make communities more prepared.

Calling for maximum participation of departments like medical, social welfare, police, home guards, fire services, and those with community outreach such as teachers and Anganwadi workers, he said disaster preparedness was a collective responsibility.

Hussain lauded the support of the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) department and expressed hope that the collaboration would further strengthen SDRF in preventing and managing disasters effectively.(KNS)
