Srinagar, Apr 10 : A fire broke out in a four-storeyed Darul Aloom building at Hyderpora Chowk here on Friday evening, officials said.
They said the blaze was reported to the State Control Room at Batamaloo at around 6:09 pm, following which multiple units of the Fire and Emergency Services were rushed to the spot.
Fire tenders from Rawalpora, Nowgam, headquarters Srinagar, Gowkadal, JVC and Rangreth, along with an additional unit from Budgam, were deployed to contain the blaze.
On reaching the site, the fire-fighting teams found the attic and fourth storey of the L-shaped structure engulfed in flames, officials said.
A joint operation was launched under the supervision of senior officers of the department, they added.
The fire was brought under control at around 7:18 pm after sustained efforts by the teams, preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures.
Officials said cooling operations were underway to prevent any flare-up.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately known.(KNS)
