Baramulla, May 15 : A day after a journalist was injured when a dry deodar tree fell on his motorcycle in north Kashmir’s Tangmarg area, the Forest Department on Friday ordered a detailed enumeration of all dry standing trees along roadsides and near public institutions.
The journalist, identified as Ubaid Malik, was injured on Thursday when a dry Kail tree collapsed onto his two-wheeler near a madrasa at Qazipora road in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district. The incident occurred due to strong winds.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) taking serious note of the matter, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Special Forest Division, Tangmarg, directed field officials to conduct a compartment-wise enumeration of all dry standing trees along roadsides and in close vicinity of schools, mosques, residential areas, public institutions and other establishments in and around Tangmarg.
The official said the Gulmarg–Tangmarg road will also be covered.
Each identified tree must be geo-tagged with photographs, and data on species, tree number, diameter class, volume and geo-coordinates shall be submitted in a prescribed format for early removal of threat-posing trees, the official added. (KNS)
