GMC Srinagar bariatric surgery programme benefits over 300 patients: Dr Iffat Hassan

Srinagar, March 25 : Government Medical College Srinagar on Wednesday said its bariatric surgery programme, launched in 2019, has benefited more than 300 patients so far.

Principal and Dean Dr Iffat Hassan GMC Srinagar talking to KNS, said around 214 patients are currently under follow up, including cases with a two year follow up period.

Professor Iffat Hassan said the programme aimed to enhance awareness among faculty members and resident doctors about evolving surgical techniques, including advancements in bariatric surgery.

Meanwhile, the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery at the college organized a workshop on pediatric surgery to discuss the latest developments in the field.

Doctors at the event said bariatric surgery remains an effective treatment for severe obesity. She said that patient selection is critical and only those meeting strict medical criteria are considered for the procedure after detailed evaluation.

The workshop concluded with a focus on strengthening surgical expertise and promoting knowledge exchange to improve patient care.(KNS)
