GULMARG, Feb 21 : The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is all set to host the 6th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), beginning tomorrow. In preparation for the three-day event, the district administration conducted a thorough review of arrangements on Saturday.
Speaking to News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, said he held a meeting with officials from various government departments involved in the organization. He said that following the meeting, he visited key venues, including the Gulmarg Club, Kangdori Slope, and the main ski slope, which will serve as the Field of Play for the inaugural ceremony scheduled for February 23.
“From tomorrow evening, our Khelo India Winter Games 6th edition is going to be launched, which will be inaugurated on the 23rd,” DC Sherpa said. “We had a meeting with all our stakeholders and different government departments involved in its organization. We visited the field to ensure that all arrangements are in place.”
The DC said that Gulmarg has received the honor of hosting the Khelo India Winter Games for the sixth consecutive time and expressed confidence in the district’s ability to conduct the event smoothly.
Regarding participation, the Deputy Commissioner informed that around 300 athletes are expected to take part. Including technical teams, the total number of delegates is likely to be around 600. (KNS)
