Srinagar, June 30 : The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Tuesday announced summer vacations for all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir division from July 6 to July 19 in view of the prevailing heatwave.
Director School Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmad Wani said the break will be observed for 14 days, with schools scheduled to reopen on July 20.
The decision comes as Kashmir continues to experience unusually high temperatures, with the mercury remaining above normal in several parts of the Valley over the past few days.
The order will apply to all government schools as well as recognised private educational institutions functioning under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.
The announcement follows growing concerns among parents over the impact of the prolonged heat on school-going children. Several parents and students had urged the authorities to advance the summer vacation, citing the difficult weather conditions and health concerns.
The Kashmir Valley has witnessed an intense spell of heat in recent days, with several stations recording temperatures well above the seasonal average. The Meteorological Department has, however, forecast a gradual change in weather over the coming days, with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms at scattered places.
Education department officials said schools are expected to resume normal academic activities after the vacation unless any fresh order is issued based on the prevailing weather conditions.(KNS).
